Samardzija tosses 6 scoreless, Giants beat Phillies 5-1

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Jeff Samardzija tossed three-hit ball over six scoreless innings, Buster Posey, Pablo Sandoval and Kevin Pillar homered in a five-run fifth and the short-handed San Francisco Giants beat the Philadelphia Phillies 5-1 Wednesday night.

The Giants were down three relievers after a flurry of moves before the trade deadline but Samardzija (8-8) handcuffed Philadelphia for his fifth straight road win.

San Francisco finished July 19-6, the best record in the majors, and gained ground in the NL wild-card standings after entering 2 1/2 games behind.

The Phillies fell a half-game back of Washington for the top spot in the wild-card race and were a half-game behind the Cubs, who could move ahead of the Nationals into the top spot with a win at St. Louis.

Vince Velasquez (3-6) took a three-hitter into the sixth before walking Mike Yastrzemski. Posey then ripped a 2-1 fastball out to left field for only his sixth homer in 273 at-bats this season.

Adam Morgan replaced Velasquez, and Sandoval went deep to right for his 14th homer. Brandon Crawford followed with a single and then Pillar connected, sending his 13th homer out to left to make it 5-0.

Tony Watson replaced Samardzija to start the seventh and walked Bryce Harper before J.T. Realmuto hit a double. But the Phillies only managed one run on Adam Haseley’s RBI groundout.

Reyes Moronta worked the eighth and Will Smith pitched the ninth.

The Giants traded former closer Mark Melancon to Atlanta, left-hander Drew Pomeranz and minor league righty Ray Black to Milwaukee, and righty Sam Dyson to the Twins.

Manager Bruce Bochy joked that Sandoval was available to pitch a couple of innings. The cleanup hitter hasn’t allowed a run in two innings of mop-up duty over the past two seasons.

Velasquez pitched out of a bases-loaded, one-out jam in the third by striking out Yastrzemski and Posey.

MAD BUM STAYS

The Giants kept 2014 World Series MVP Madison Bumgarner even though he’ll be a free agent after the season. Following a recent run of success, the team is contending in Bochy’s final season before retirement.

“He means so much to me,” Bochy said. “To have him here the rest of my tenure here, it’s pretty cool. It makes me feel really good to have him beside me.”

Giants: Acquired 2018 All-Star 2B Scooter Gennett from the Reds, INF Mauricio Dubon from the Brewers, OF Joseph McCarthy from the Rays, RHPs Daniel Winkler and Tristan Beck from the Braves and OF Jaylin Davis, RHPs Prelander Berroa and Kai-Wei Teng from the Twins.

Phillies: Acquired OF Corey Dickerson from the Pirates for a player to be named and $250,000 in international signing money, and RHP Dan Straily from Baltimore for cash. Straily was assigned him to Triple-A. Dickerson is hitting .317 this season.

Phillies: RHP David Robertson said he needs season-ending surgery to repair a flexor strain and he’s getting a second opinion to determine if he needs Tommy John surgery for the ulnar collateral ligament in his elbow.

Donaldson homers in 10th, lifts Braves over Nationals 5-4

WASHINGTON (AP) — Josh Donaldson homered against Sean Doolittle in the top of the 10th, and the Atlanta Braves pulled out a 5-4 victory over the Washington Nationals on Wednesday to take two of three in the series and pad their NL East lead to 6 1/2 games.

After the Nationals scored twice in the bottom of the ninth to tie the game, Donaldson swatted a fastball from Doolittle over the center-field wall for his 25th homer of the season.

Adam Duvall homered for the fourth time in five games. Ronald Acuña Jr., Ozzie Albies and Tyler Flowers also drove in runs for the Braves, who won consecutive series in Washington for the first time since 2013. They also won two of three in late June.

Atlanta got another quality road start from Mike Soroka (10-2), who pitched seven innings and allowed just three hits, including a leadoff homer to Juan Soto in the second.

Washington starter Aníbal Sánchez (6-6) could not keep pace, allowing four runs on 10 hits in five innings of work.

YANKEES 7, DIAMONDBACKS 5

NEW YORK (AP) — Austin Romine hit a go-ahead, two-run homer in the seventh inning and New York beat Arizona while the Diamondbacks completed a deal to send ace Zack Greinke to Houston.

The Yankees had been shopping for pitching and may have eyed Greinke ahead of the 4 p.m. trade deadline. The veteran right-hander gave them an impressive firsthand look, striking out seven and pitching five innings of two-run ball. He was in line for the win before Romine’s shot off Yoshihisa Hirano (3-5).

Instead, the 35-year-old Greinke is off to Houston, where he’ll play for a rival AL pennant contender. The Diamondbacks got a quartet of prospects in return.

Adam Ottavino (4-3) got the win with a scoreless inning.

REDS 4, PIRATES 1

CINCINNATI (AP) — Clint Hurdle and David Bell had little interaction while exchanging lineup cards one day after their teams fought on the field, and the two teams were on good behavior during Cincinnati’s victory over Pittsburgh behind a strong outing from Luis Castillo.

Bell and three Reds, including now-traded Yasiel Puig, were ejected for a ninth-inning brawl during the Pirates‘ 11-4 win on Tuesday night. Four Pirates also were ejected. Major League Baseball was reviewing video of the fight Wednesday and was expected to hand down suspensions over the second fracas between the NL Central rivals this season.

Bell went after Hurdle during the fight and was restrained in a headlock by batting coach Rick Eckstein. Bell repeatedly cursed Hurdle as he left the field. A day later, the two managers didn’t say much while handing lineup cards to the umpires.

Castillo (10-4) gave up six hits and a run over seven innings. Jesse Winker and Eugenio Suarez homered off rookie Dario Agrazal (2-2), who lasted only 3 2/3 innings.

The two teams aren’t done with each other. They meet again at PNC Park on Aug. 23, and wrap up the season in Pittsburgh Sept. 27-29.

DODGERS 5, ROCKIES 1

DENVER (AP) — Will Smith hit a three-run home run in the ninth inning to break open a scoreless game and lead Los Angeles over Colorado.

Kristopher Negrón also went deep during the rally and Alex Verdugo had four hits. Joe Kelly (5-3) pitched the eighth inning to earn the win.

Rockies starter German Márquez was helped off the field at the start of the seventh inning with what the team said was full-body cramping. The right-hander fanned 10 through six innings.

The Rockies lost because of a bad ninth inning. Closer Wade Davis (1-5) walked Cody Bellinger and gave up a single to Corey Seager with one out. Smith followed with a homer to center, his fifth of the season. Verdugo then singled and Negrón homered for the second straight game.

BLUE JAYS 4, ROYALS 1

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Freddy Galvis and rookie Bo Bichette hit solo home runs as Toronto completed a three-game sweep over Kansas City.

Bichette hit his first career homer to open the eighth against Royals starter Jakob Junis. Galvis cleared the center field wall with his 16th to open the seventh.

Cavan Biggio followed Bichette’s homer with a double, chasing Junis (6-10). Reliever Kevin McCarthy surrendered a run-scoring double to Teoscar Hernández.

Rookie Jacob Waguespack (2-1) went six innings for his second win in his fourth big-league start. He held the Royals to three hits and one run.

TIGERS 9, ANGELS 1

ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) — Jake Rogers, Brandon Dixon and Gordon Beckham went deep, Daniel Norris picked up his first win since May 12 and Detroit swept the three-game series.

Rogers opened the scoring in the third with his first big league homer.

Dixon and Beckham homered during a five-run eighth inning off Luis García. Dixon — who ended up with four RBIs — had a two-run blast to left-center and Beckham’s was a three-run shot to right center.

Norris (3-8) allowed only three hits over five innings with five strikeouts.

American League home run leader Mike Trout supplied the Angels‘ lone run with a solo shot in the sixth.

Suarez (2-2) didn’t allow a hit the first two innings then surrendered four runs on four hits over 4 1/3 innings.

TWINS 7, MARLINS 4

MIAMI (AP) — Jose Berrios struck out a season-high 11 in seven innings and Minnesota hit three homers in a win over Miami.

Max Kepler hit his 29th homer of the season, Mitch Garver added a three-run shot and Eddie Rosario had a two-run home run as the Twins won for the fifth time in six games.

Berrios fans 11, Twins hit 3 homers in 7-4 win over Marlins

MIAMI (AP) — Jose Berrios struck out a season-high 11 in seven innings and the Minnesota Twins hit three homers in a 7-4 win over the Miami Marlins on Wednesday night.

Max Kepler hit his 29th homer of the season, Mitch Garver added a three-run shot and Eddie Rosario had a two-run home run as the Twins won for the fifth time in six games. Minnesota leads the majors with 209 home runs, 16 shy of the club record set in 1963. It was the 32nd time this season the Twins hit at least three homers in a game.

Berrios (10-5) retired the first 12 batters he faced, including six on strikeouts, before Neil Walker led off the fifth inning with a dribbler down the third-base line. Starlin Castro followed with a base hit to center. The 25-year-old right-hander settled in and retired the next nine batters before being lifted with a big lead. He allowed just two hits and didn’t walk a batter while lowering his ERA to 2.80.

Miami’s Brian Anderson hit a grand slam in the ninth inning to cut the Marlins’ deficit to 7-4.

Taylor Rogers came on to strike out the final two batters, earning his 17th save in 22 chances.

Garver’s three-run homer, his 20th, gave the Twins a 3-0 lead in the third.

The Twins added four runs on five hits in the fifth inning. Kepler led off with a homer. After Garver singled, Rosario connected for a two-run homer to right field. Marwin Gonzalez doubled to give Minnesota a 7-0 lead.

Anderson’s slam, his second of the season, came off Sean Poppen after the Marlins opened the inning with three straight singles.

Marlins starter Sandy Alcantara (4-10) allowed seven runs in 4 2/3 innings.

Twins: RHP Michael Pineda (7-5, 4.30 ERA) will pitch Thursday’s series finale, looking to stay hot with a 3-2 record and 2.87 ERA over his last eight starts.

Award-winning director's son shoots 60 in Junior PGA

HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — Jake Beber-Frankel, the 17-year-old son of Academy Award-winning director David Frankel, shot a 10-under 60 on Wednesday for the lowest score in the history of the Boys Junior PGA Championship.

Beber-Frankel, from Miami, closed with a par on the ninth hole at Keney Park Golf Course, missing a chance to shoot 59.

“I actually thought of a 59 on my 10th or 11th hole,” said Beber-Frankel, a Stanford commit.

Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Jordan Spieth and Justin Thomas are among the many PGA Tour stars who have played in the event, with Akshay Bhatia setting the previous record of 61 in 2017 at the Country Club of St. Albans outside St. Louis.

Wearing a fluorescent green headband, Beber-Frankel played each nine in 5-under 30. He birdied four of the first five holes.

“I knew right then that it could be a good day,” he said.

He also birdied No. 16. On the second nine, he birdied Nos. 1, 2, 4, 6 and 8.

Beber-Frankel was second at 13 under after 36 holes, a stroke behind Canon Claycomb of Bowling Green, Kentucky, with two rounds left. The 17-year-old Claycomb, an Alabama commit, followed his opening 62 with a 64 to break the tournament 36-hole mark.

David Frankel won the Academy Award for Best Live Action Short Film for his 1996 film Dear Diary. He later directed “The Devil Wears Prada,” ”Marley & Me” and “Hope Springs” and “The Big Year.” Beber-Frankel’s grandfather, Max Frankel, is a journalist who won a Pulitzer Prize in 1973 while with The New York Times.

Coan has slight edge in 4-way Wisconsin QB battle

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — There were two notable absences Wednesday at Wisconsin media day: two-time All-American running back Jonathan Taylor and quarterback Alex Hornibrook.

Taylor’s flight out of Philadelphia was delayed, causing him to miss the team photo, and Hornibrook, who started the past three seasons for the Badgers, transferred to Florida State in March.

Competing to take Hornibrook’s place as the starter will be Jack Coan, Danny Vanden Boom, Chase Wolf and freshman Graham Mertz. The Badgers, who went 8-5 last year, open the season Aug. 30 at South Florida.

Coach Paul Chryst said Coan has a slight edge heading into fall camp as the only quarterback of the four with any meaningful experience at the college level. The junior played in five games last season and went 2-2 in four starts, winning consecutive games to close out the year.

“I thought certainly his last two were his best games,” Chryst said. “I’ve appreciated how he’s gone about it. Experience is great to learn from. I think he’s done all the things he can at taking the steps to try to maximize the opportunity to learn. But Jack’s not a veteran quarterback right now.”

Coan said he’s gained 10-to-15 pounds since last season and is looking forward to competing for the starting job.

“They’re a bunch of great guys,” Coan said of the other three quarterbacks. “Competition just brings out the best in you. so it’s all going to be good.”

Vanden Boom played sparingly in three games last season, and Chryst said Wolf had a good spring. But the most intriguing of the group is Mertz.

Mertz, who grew up in Kansas, was considered one of the top prospects in the 2019 recruiting class, receiving scholarship offers from traditional powers Alabama, Clemson, Georgia, Michigan and Ohio State. He chose Wisconsin and even enrolled early in Madison so he could participate in spring practice.

Mertz said he’s excited about trying to secure the starting spot over the next few weeks.

“That’s the nature of competition — it really brings out the best in everyone,” Mertz said. “That’s what I’m excited for. If you sat down and watched our spring ball, the first practice, then you watched the last one, we all grew a ton in every aspect. So I’m excited to see how we come out of this fall camp. It’ll be good times.”

Offensive coordinator Joe Rudolph said he has faith in all four players and said each has the potential to become a starter.

“I don’t remember having four guys where you felt like, ‘Man, OK, I don’t care who’s in that huddle, they can command it, they can communicate, guys trust them, and let’s go,'” Rudolph said. “That’s saying something. I think it started probably with Jack and his approach. He got competition right off the jump. Not only from Chase and Danny but here comes Graham. … I like what’s going on.”

Hornibrook went 26-6 in parts of three seasons as Wisconsin’s starting quarterback, and his .813 winning percentage is the best of any passer in program history, but he struggled at times last season as the Badgers finished with their lowest win total since 2012.

“I think for us to be the best team we can be, we need to obviously have more improved and consistent play at the quarterback spot,” Chryst said.

Jake Rogers hits first homer, Daniel Norris ends skid as Tigers rout Angels 9-1

ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) — The Detroit Tigers earned their first series win in two months despite having two of their clubhouse leaders traded before Wednesday’s game against the Los Angeles Angels.

The Tigers dealt pitcher Shane Greene and outfielder Nicholas Castellanos at the deadline, but got contributions from the rest of the lineup in a 9-1 victory.

Jake Rogers, Brandon Dixon and Gordon Beckham went deep while Daniel Norris picked up his first win since May 12. The Tigers took two of three in a series for the first time since they did that May 27-29 at Baltimore.

“Guys played good baseball. There was a whirlwind of stuff going on today which fortunately our guys hung in there pretty good,” Detroit manager Ron Gardenhire said. “It was tough seeing Nick and Shane go, but that’s baseball.”

Castellanos was in the lineup batting second as the designated hitter, but was scratched at the last second. Gardenhire said he waiting until the last possible moment to print a lineup card and still had to change it as he was going out to give it to the umpires.

Gardenhire said that was the first time in his long career as a manager he’s had that happen. Then again, rarely have games started right at the trade deadline.

“Normally I am going about my business and someone comes to the dugout and says you have to take a guy out of the lineup but I’ve never been sitting in here waiting to print out my lineup card. That was interesting especially with trying to see what to put on the lineup card,” he said.

Despite the whirlwind of emotions, it didn’t seem to affect the Tigers on the field.

Rogers opened the scoring in the third with his first homer in the majors. The rookie catcher, who was called up on Tuesday, deposited a Jose Suarez fastball over the wall in left for a solo shot.

“I tried to take it all in as much as I could,” Rogers said.

Dixon and Beckham homered during a five-run eighth inning off Luis Garcia. Dixon — who ended up with a career-high four RBIs — had a two-run blast to left-center and Beckham’s was a three-run shot to right center.

Norris (3-8), who had gone 14 starts without a win, allowed only three hits over five innings with five strikeouts. The left-hander wanted to go longer but was experiencing groin cramps during the fifth inning. He was able to complete the frame but Gardenhire didn’t send him out for the sixth.

American League home run leader Mike Trout supplied the Angels’ lone run with a solo shot in the sixth. It is the center fielder’s 35th of the season and a team-record 13th in July. He is the first player to have 13 homers in July since the Yankees’ Hideki Matsui in 2007.

Suarez (2-2) didn’t allow a hit the first two innings before running into trouble. The left-hander surrendered four runs on four hits over 4 1/3 innings.

The Angels won just twice during a seven-game homestand against two of the worst teams in the American League — Baltimore and Detroit.

“We don’t like it. But it’s on us,” manager Brad Ausmus said. “We have to right the ship. We have some pretty good teams coming up on this road trip. We’ve got to right it, quick.”

ANGELS MOVE

The Angels also made a deal at the deadline, acquiring C Max Stassi from Houston for minor-league Rainer Rivas and Raider Uceta.

The Angels and Tigers split their six games in the season series. This is the first time LA has not won a season series against Detroit since 2012. … 3B David Fletcher reached base safely in 20 of 24 July games. … RHP JC Ramirez made his first appearance since April 7, 2018, and pitched a scoreless inning. Ramirez has missed the past 15 months after undergoing Tommy John surgery. … Detroit has only three wins in its previous 28 games against the AL West. … SS Niko Goodrum snapped a 0 for 11 skid with an RBI single in the third. … Rogers is the first Tigers catcher with three runs scored in his first two games since Lance Parrish in 1977.

Cowboys release son of Hall of Famer Larry Allen at camp

OXNARD, Calif. (AP) — The Dallas Cowboys have released offensive lineman Larry Allen Jr., the son of Hall of Fame guard Larry Allen, to make room for linebacker Justin Phillips.

The younger Allen joined his dad’s former team as an undrafted free agent in May but ended up being the first cut of training camp in California, his home state. Allen played at Harvard. His father was a six-time All-Pro in 11 seasons with the Cowboys.

Phillips also signed as an undrafted free agent with Dallas out of Oklahoma State but was cut after offseason practices. Dallas needed depth at linebacker for camp with Sean Lee nursing a minor knee injury and Chris Covington slowed early by a hamstring issue.

Fever get 1st home win since June 7, beat Dream 61-59

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Erica Wheeler made a go-ahead layup with 11.9 seconds left, rookie Teaira McCowan blocked two shots at the other end and the Indiana Fever beat the Atlanta Dream 61-59 on Wednesday night.

Indiana (7-15) snapped a six-game losing streak and eight-game home skid that matched the club record for a single season. Atlanta (5-16) is tied with Dallas for the worst record in the WNBA after a season-high sixth consecutive defeat.

Wheeler had 15 points and five steals, and McCowan added 10 points and 14 rebounds. Indiana led by 13 points in the third quarter but Atlanta opened the fourth on a 17-5 run for a 59-54 lead. Wheeler’s basket was Indiana’s only field goal in the fourth quarter.

Elizabeth Williams scored 17 points for Atlanta, and Alex Bentley added 12.

Both teams shot under 32% from the field, combining for 7-of-39 shooting from 3-point range and 30 turnovers

The Detroit Tigers beat the Los Angeles Angels 9-1 behind two big home runs in the 8th inning from Gordon Beckham, Brandon Dixon.

Pulisic scores 1st 2 goals in Chelsea uniform

American midfielder Christian Pulisic scored his first two goals in a Chelsea uniform and drew a foul that led to a penalty kick in a 5-3 exhibition victory at Red Bull Salzburg in Austria on Wednesday night.

The 20-year-old from Hershey, Pennsylvania, scored in the 20th and 28th minutes. After Pulisic was fouled, Ross Barkley converted a penalty kick in the 23rd.

Chelsea owner Roman Abramovic was among the spectators on hand for the game.

Pulisic was acquired by Chelsea in January from Borussia Dortmund for a 64 million euro (then $73 million) transfer fee, the most for an American player, then loaned back to the German club for the remainder of the season.

Chelsea opens the Premier League season at Manchester United on Aug. 11.

1st-place Twins add reliever Sam Dyson at trade deadline

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — The Minnesota Twins will rely on largely the same roster for the stretch run as the one that originally propelled them into first place, with the exception of a couple of potentially valuable additions to the bullpen.

Four days after acquiring Sergio Romo from Miami, the Twins got another veteran right-handed reliever in Sam Dyson in a deadline-beating deal Wednesday with San Francisco. Romo and Dyson will assume critical late-inning bridge roles to closer Taylor Rogers for a team that has led the AL Central since late April but has seen a once-cushy lead over three-time defending division champion Cleveland shrink significantly over the last month.

“Having real quality options helps, and it also helps push some other guys in some very important spots, and it allows you to fill up those innings in a better way,” manager Rocco Baldelli said before the Twins played the Marlins.

With a 4.33 bullpen ERA that ranked 13th in the major leagues entering Wednesday, the Twins addressed their biggest need, even if the lack of significant action left some of the fan base frustrated that the Twins didn’t make as many upgrades as the competition. The Indians traded starting pitcher Trevor Bauer from a position of strength for two power-hitting outfielders in a three-team swap, and Houston made the biggest splash of all by landing starting pitcher Zack Greinke from Arizona on a busy afternoon around the major leagues.

The Indians cut down a deficit that was as large as 11½ games at one point to just one game over the weekend, before the Twins bumped it back up to three games entering Wednesday. If they can hold on to win the division for the first time in nine years, they’d still probably have to face the Astros or the daunting New York Yankees, or perhaps both, to reach the franchise’s first World Series since 1991.

For now, the Twins, whose 206 home runs are the most in the majors and whose starting pitching ERA of 3.84 ranked fifth entering Wednesday, will focus on becoming harder to hit in those critical seventh and eighth innings. The Twins have dumped four relievers — Adalberto Mejia, Matt Magill, Mike Morin and Blake Parker — over the last month, and one of their primary setup men, Trevor May, has struggled of late. Ryne Harper and Tyler Duffey have been two other heavily used options.

Dyson didn’t come cheap. The Twins sent three minor leaguers to the Giants: 25-year-old Triple-A outfielder Jaylin Davis, 19-year-old rookie league right-hander Prelander Berroa and 20-year-old Class A right-hander Kai-Wei Teng.

The 31-year-old Dyson, though, has a 2.47 ERA in 49 appearances with 47 strikeouts and just seven walks in 51 innings. His opponent batting average is .213. The fourth-round draft pick in 2010 by Toronto will join his fifth major league team in Minnesota. Dyson will have one more club-controllable year before he can become a free agent.

“This is a very nice acquisition for us. He’s a hard-throwing guy, a guy with very good command. His fastball is a weapon in itself. I don’t know if he calls it a sinker or a two-seamer, but I think he gets great action on that pitch,” Baldelli said. “This is a guy that’s done it. He’s had a lot of success. He’s a guy we’re going to turn to in later-innings situations, and I’m excited to be able to call his name.”

Astros ace Greinke deal; 2 dozen trades on deadline day

Out of nowhere, the Houston Astros got a huge head start on October.

On a dizzying day that featured two dozen trades, the Astros pulled off the biggest and most startling deal, adding ace Zack Greinke to an imposing rotation already loaded with All-Stars Justin Verlander and Gerrit Cole.

Plenty of familiar names were on the go Wednesday — Shane Greene and Mark Melancon boosted the Braves‘ bullpen, with Scooter Gennett, Jesús Aguilar and Mike Leake among those also moving.

But it was the Astros’ acquisition of Greinke from Arizona for four minor leaguers that quickly became the talk of baseball. The deal came right before the deadline for swapping players to still have them eligible for the postseason.

“We had him high on our list and we didn’t know this was even remotely possible and it really wasn’t until the last 48 hours and really the last 24 hours that we started to get traction on something,” Houston general manager Jeff Luhnow said.

The AL West leaders and 2017 World Series champions added two other pitchers, too, getting starter Aaron Sanchez and reliever Joe Biagini from Toronto.

“Houston made some big deals. They’re really good. They were good before,” Red Sox President of Baseball Operations Dave Dombrowski said.

A lot of contenders were busy.

The Chicago Cubs added Detroit’s Nicholas Castellanos to their lineup, the Phillies got outfielder Corey Dickerson from Pittsburgh and the Washington Nationals added relievers Daniel Hudson, Roenis Elías and Hunter Strickland.

“When it comes to trades, one thing I’ve learned is, just wait,” Cubs manager Joe Maddon said. “You’ve got to wait until the very end and it plays itself out. The 11th hour is the most powerful hour there is. To get things done before that, it normally doesn’t work to get what you want. There’s the 11th hour at work.”

Several players whose named swirled in the tradewinds stayed put.

Giants ace Madison Bumgarner, Mets starters Noah Syndergaard and Zack Wheeler, and Pirates closer Felipe Vázquez remained in place.

“Nothing changed for me. I never expected to be somewhere else until that happened,” Bumgarner said. “I just have a job to do and I’m going to do it. We’re going to miss a few guys we got rid of. That’s going to be tough.”

Major League Baseball made July 31 a hard deadline this year for trades. Now, no deals can be made until after the World Series.

“This was a unique deadline, it felt,” said Yankees general manager Brian Cashman, whose AL East-leading team didn’t make any significant moves.

Pitchers Marcus Stroman, Andrew Cashner, Homer Bailey and Jason Vargas were among the players who were traded in recent weeks.

And on Tuesday night, the Cleveland Indians agreed to send pitcher Trevor Bauer to Cincinnati in a three-team swap that brought back outfielder Yasiel Puig. That trade became official Wednesday, setting off a full morning and afternoon of swaps.

تعقد الهيئة العامة للرياضة ابتداءً من اليوم الخميس الموافق 1 أغسطس (آب) 2019 وحتى غد الجمعة الموافق 2 أغسطس 2019 في مدينة الملك عبد الله الرياضية بجدة ورشات عمل لممثلي الأندية السعودية الـ170 وممثلي الاتحادات لتوضيح جميع التفاصيل المتعلقة باستراتيجية دعم الأندية والتي أعلنت عنها الهيئة في 20 يوليو (تموز) الماضي بهدف وضع آلية دعم للأندية الرياضيّة تضمن استدامتها ماليّاً وإداريّاً.
وسيحضر ممثلو الأندية ورشات العمل لبدء الخطوات العمليّة لاستحقاق الدعم الإضافي الذي ستقدمّه الهيئة وفق معايير موضوعة بهدف تطوير هذه الأندية وضمان استدامتها ماليّاً وإداريّاً، وكذلك شرح نظام النقاط الموحّد الخاص بدعم الألعاب.
وكانت الهيئة العامة للرياضة قد أعلنت في مؤتمر صحافي في 20 يوليو الماضي عن استراتيجية دعم الأندية الرياضية، والتي تضمنت تقديم دعم مالي مباشر لجميع الأندية الـ170 بواقع 50 مليون ريال سعودي لكل نادٍ من أندية دوري المحترفين والبالغ عددها 16 ناديا، ومبلغ 80 مليون ريال سعودي يقسم بالتساوي بين أندية دوري الأمير محمد بن سلمان لأندية الدرجة الأولى والبالغ عددها 20 ناديا، ومبلغ 36 مليون ريال سعودي يقسم بالتساوي بين أندية الدرجة الثانية والبالغ عددها 24 ناديا، ومبلغ 55 مليون ريال سعودي يقسم بالتساوي بين أندية الدرجة الثالثة والبالغ عددها 110 أندية. وبحسب الاستراتيجية، يمكن لأندية دوري المحترفين والبالغ عددها 16 ناديا الحصول على دعم إضافي في حال تطويرها لأربعة محاور رئيسيّة وهي: (الحوكمة - البنية التحتيّة - القاعدة الجماهيريّة - الألعاب المختلفة)، وستكون آلية الدعم في هذه المحاور مشروطة بحيث يحصل كل نادٍ من أندية دوري المحترفين على مبلغ 20 مليون ريال سعودي، في حال قام النادي بمطابقة معايير محدّدة من ناحية الاستراتيجيّة والقيادة والهيكلة الإداريّة والإدارة الماليّة والإدارة التشغيليّة ومسؤوليّة أصحاب العلاقة والالتزام والتحكّم والمراقبة واللوائح الداخلية.
يحصل كل نادٍ من أندية دوري المحترفين على مبلغ 10 ملايين ريال سعودي مقابل تطوير البنية التحتيّة والمنشآت التابعة لها. ويحصل كل نادٍ من أندية دوري المحترفين على مبلغ 5 ملايين ريال سعودي مقابل تنظيم فعاليات مصاحبة للمباريات المستضافة على ملعب النادي.
كما يحصل كل نادٍ من أندية دوري المحترفين على مبلغ 3 ملايين ريال سعودي مقابل جهود التسويق لزيادة جماهيريّة للنادي ويحصل كل نادٍ من أندية دوري المحترفين على مبلغ (مليون ريال سعودي) في كل مباراة على ملعبه يحقق فيها نسبة حضور جماهيري تفوق 50 في المائة من السعة الإجمالية للملعب، أو حضور أكثر من 10 آلاف متفرج للملاعب التي تزيد سعتها على 25 ألف مقعد. وفيما يخص الألعاب المختلفة وآلية دعمها فقد تم رصد مبلغ (480 مليون ريال سعودي) يتم منحه للنوادي الـ170 في المملكة لتحفيز جهودها في تنشيط مختلف الألعاب، وذلك بالارتكاز على مشاركتها والنتائج التي تحققها ضمن نظام «نقاط موحّد» تم تصميمه خصيصاً لهذا الهدف.
وسيتم توزيع الدعم المالي وفق عدد النقاط الإجمالي الذي يحصده النادي عبر أدائه في مختلف المسابقات في جميع الرياضات، وسيكون الموسم القادم نقطة الانطلاق باختيار 10 ألعاب مختلفة يصل مجموع نقاطها الإجمالي إلى 800 نقطة، وتشمل الألعاب العشر: الكرة الطائرة وكرة السلّة وكرة اليد وألعاب القوى والتنس الأرضي والتايكوندو والكاراتيه وكرة الطاولة والسباحة والدراجات الهوائيّة، وتم اختيار هذه الألعاب العشر في الموسم القادم وفقاً لأربعة معايير هي:
«استراتيجية الهيئة العامة للرياضة للاعبي النخبة، وبطولات الاتحادات، ونسبة المشاركة المجتمعيّة في الألعاب، والطلب الجماهيري على هذه الألعاب».
ويقوم نظام النقاط الموحد للألعاب المختلفة على ثلاث مراحل تتضمن استيفاء الأندية لشروط ومعايير محدّدة للدخول في نظام النقاط أبرزها التنافس في خمس ألعاب من العشر المختارة على الأقلّ والمشاركة في عشر ألعاب بالمجمل، بالإضافة إلى التنافس في خمس ألعاب من العشر المختارة على الأقل في الفئات السنيّة، وتصميم برامج تطوير الفئات السنيّة في 8 من الألعاب العشر المختارة وتقديم خطّة لتطوير الألعاب المختلفة لجميع الفئات السنيّة، ومرحلة جمع النقاط، وتتطلّب من الأندية المؤهلة تفعيل الألعاب والمنافسة والبدء بجمع النقاط خلال المنافسات في الألعاب المختلفة. ومرحلة الدعم المالي والتي يتم فيها تقديم الدعم المالي للأندية وفق عدد النقاط التي حققتها.

رالي عسير ينطلق بالمرحلة الاستعراضية... وخبراء فيراري يشعلون فعالياته

تنطلق اليوم المرحلة الاستعراضية من بطولة رالي عسير 2019 برعاية الأمير تركي بن طلال أمير منطقة عسير وبحضور رئيس اتحاد السيارات الأمير خالد بن سلطان.

وتتميز الفعاليات المصاحبة لرالي عسير بشموليتها وتستهدف جميع شرائح المجتمع بدءاً من الرالي العائلي وفعاليات الدريفت والكارتينج والأوتوكروس والمسرح العائلي.

توقعت متسابقة الراليات المصرية يارا شلبي أن تشهد مسابقات الراليات المقبلة مشاركة عدد من الفتيات السعوديات في ظل الدعم الذي تجده المرأة من خادم الحرمين الشريفين الملك سلمان بن عبد العزيز وولي عهده الأمير محمد بن سلمان ومواكبة مع قرار السماح لهن بقيادة السيارات.

وقالت شلبي إن الظروف الأمنية في مصر «سابقا» كانت من أسباب خروجها للمشاركات الخارجية في دول الإمارات والمغرب والسعودية.

وقالت شلبي في حديثها لـ«الشرق الأوسط»: البداية كانت في العام 2013 في منافسات محلية في مصر وكانت النتائج حينها سيئة ولكن بالعزيمة واصلت تحقيق طموحاتي في الرياضة التي أحببتها حتى حققت مراكز متقدمة في الأعوام 2014 و2016 و2018 حيث لم أغادر المراكز الثلاثة الأولى في كل تلك السنوات على مستوى الجمهورية، وتخلل تلك الفترة مسابقة رالي الفراعنة الدولي في عام 2015 وحققت الأولى على مستوى مصر وكان الرالي الأخير بسبب عدد من الاحتياطات الأمنية في المناطق الصحراوية في مصر.

وتابعت: قررت بعد ذلك التوجه للمسابقات خارج مصر، حيث شاركت في رالي أم القوين بالإمارات المتحدة في عام 21018 وعقبها عدة مشاركات خارجية حتى وصولي للراليات السعودية هذا العام بمنطقة عسير، وأشعر بسعادة كبيرة كوني أول سيدة تشارك في الراليات السعودية، وأتمنى أن أحقق نتائج إيجابية رائعة.

وحول حصر هذه الرياضة على الرجال فقط، قالت: هذه هواية أستمتع بها كثيرا على عكس بعض السيدات لأن النساء قد لا يرغبن في صيانة المركبات أو المبيت في الصحاري أثناء المنافسات، ولكن أرى أنها متعة كبيرة جدا، ويجب ألا يحتكرها الرجال فقط وأنا الآن محترفة في هذا المجال.

وفيما يخص الصعوبات التي واجهتها، قالت: من الصعوبات التي واجهتها في البدايات هو عدم القناعة بقيادة المرأة لسيارة السباقات، وكذلك عدم وجود معلومات كافية في الميكانيكا، وكنت أتعرض للكثير من (التهريج) من بعض المنافسين لي عندما أنطق أي شيء يخص الميكانيكا بشكل خاطئ، ولكن لم أتأثر كثيرا حتى أصبحت ضمن الأبطال المشار إليهم بالبنان.

وأضافت شلبي أنها وجدت كامل التشجيع من أفراد أسرتها على الرغم من قلقهم من حوادث السيارات لعلمهم أن سباق الراليات يتخلله حوادث خطرة ولكن طمأنتهم أن سيارة السباق بها أمان عال ويتم اختبارها والكشف عليها قبل خوض تلك السباقات.

تنطلق اليوم فعاليات النسخة الثانية من مهرجان ولي العهد للهجن، وذلك بحديقة الملك فيصل بمحافظة الطائف، ضمن فعاليات موسم الطائف 2019.
وشهدت أرض حديقة الملك فيصل بالطائف أعمال تطوير مكثفة شملت جميع ساحاتها وأرصفتها وإعادة تشجيرها، وتم استحداث بوابة رئيسية للحديقة وصالات عروض جديدة تشهدها الطائف لأول مرة.
وتتخطى فعاليات مهرجان الهجن بحديقة الملك فيصل حاجز الـ20 فعالية متنوعة تضم متحفاً يعرض أكبر مجسّم للهجن، سيعلن تسجيله في موسوعة غينيس للأرقام القياسية خلال انطلاق الفعاليات، ومركزاً للسوق الشعبية التي تحوي 24 متجراً متنوعاً ما بين الحرف اليدوية والفخاريات والمأكولات الشعبية، وغيرها، إضافة إلى الخيمة المخصصة للقصص والقصائد الشعرية التي تناولت الهجن وتاريخها العريض في حضارة أبناء الجزيرة العربية.
وسيشاهد زائر فعاليات مهرجان ولي العهد للهجن الثاني، عرضاً للفنون التشكيلية، والمنحوتات، ومرسماً للأطفال، تتخللها معزوفات كاملة على الطبول، فضلاً عن العرض الماسي، وعروض النار، والعروض المتجوّلة، والعزف على البيانو من ارتفاع 5 أمتار، وألعاب الليزر، وفرقة المستحيل، والعروض الفنية، فيما خصصت مدينة للسيرك للعروض البهلوانية والترفيهية للأسر في منطقة الترفيه والتحديات الرياضية المتنوعة.
ويتابع الأمير عبد العزيز الفيصل، رئيس مجلس إدارة الهيئة العامة للرياضة، رئيس الاتحاد الدولي للهجن، عن كثب تفاصيل إقامة فعاليات النسخة الثانية من مهرجان ولي العهد للهجن، ووجه باتخاذ كل ما من شأنه في إنجاح المهرجان وتحقيق أهدافه في تأصيل تراث رياضة سباقات الهجن وتعزيزها في الثقافة السعودية والعربية والإسلامية، إضافة إلى دعم الحركة السياحية والاقتصادية بالمملكة بما يعزز المشاركة المجتمعية، ويؤصِل الموروث، وينشر الوطنية، ويعكس العمق الحضاري للمملكة، وترسيخ مكانة الطائف وإعادتها لصدارة الوجهات السياحية العربية، وإبراز عمقها التاريخي والحضاري والثقافي، مع تقديم مجموعة من الفعاليات النوعية.
وأوضح رئيس مجلس إدارة الهيئة العامة للرياضة رئيس الاتحاد الدولي للهجن، أنه وقف على جميع الاستعدادات، والتجهيزات الخاصة بمراحل السباقات التي ستنطلق في 15 أغسطس (آب)، بما يواكب أهمية الحدث الذي يحمل اسم ولي العهد وطموحات ملاك ومحبي رياضة الهجن على مستوى العالم.
وقال صالح العنزي، المتحدث الرسمي لاتحاد الهجن لـ«الشرق الأوسط»: «إن مهرجان ولي العهد سيشهد إقامة 439 شوطاً، تبدأ بالمرحلة التنشيطية لجميع الفئات العمرية بأشواط بلغ عددها 218 شوطاً، فيما ستكون أشواط الماراثون والإنتاج والحراير والأشواط الدولية والسودانية بعدد 48 شوطاً، بينما ستكون الأشواط الختامية للمهرجان بعدد 173 شوطاً.
وذكر العنزي أن المهرجان حقق في عامه الأول حضوراً لافتاً دخل على إثره موسوعة «غينيس» القياسية بعد أن شارك فيه أكثر من 11 ألف مطية، بالإضافة إلى تنوع السباق وتقسيمه إلى عدة أقسام والتي ستكون من ضمنها الأشواط العربية والتي تخص الدول العربية فقط، وذلك تعزيزاً لهذا التراث.

MLB Trade Deadline: AL East hopefuls Rays complete 3 deals

BOSTON (AP) — Tampa Bay manager Kevin Cash talked to Rays baseball boss Matt Silverman at 3:52 p.m. on Wednesday, eight minutes before the trading deadline, and had no idea the team was on the verge of several deals.

“Then it all came quick,” Cash said after Tampa made three trades on deadline day, including one that brought slumping Brewers slugger Jesús Aguilar to the AL East hopefuls.

The Rays sent right-handed reliever Jake Faria to Milwaukee in the deal, the first and biggest of Tampa’s moves to try to catch the New York Yankees in the division, or at least pass Oakland in the wild-card race. At the 4 p.m. deadline, the Rays were eight games behind the Yankees in the East and one-half game behind the Athletics for the AL’s second wild-card berth.

Neither the Yankees nor Red Sox, who entered Wednesday night’s game 1 1/2 games behind Tampa, made any moves at the deadline.

“There’s a buzz in here leading up until 4 o’clock and everyone in here was just refreshing their phones to see what the heck was happening,” outfielder Kevin Kiermaier said in the visitor’s clubhouse at Fenway Park.

“It’s fun to see people in new uniforms and see which teams were going to try and help their clubs the most,” he said. “I definitely think we’re one of the teams up there that made some great acquisitions.”

Tampa also acquired right-handers Trevor Richards and Nick Anderson from the Miami Marlins for right-hander Ryne Stanek and minor league outfielder Jesus Sanchez. The Rays sent reliever Adam Kolarek to the Los Angeles Dodgers for Single-A outfielder Niko Hulsizer.

“I think we’re all excited,” Kiermaier said. “It lets us know that the front office has our backs and they’re giving us the best chance of winning every single day.”

An All-Star last year, when he hit 35 home runs with 108 RBIs for the NL Central champion Brewers, Aguilar is hitting .225 with eight homers and 34 RBIs this year.

“Under the hood, we still feel there is some life there,” Rays general manager Erik Neander said.

The 26-year-old Faria had a 2.70 ERA in seven games for Tampa Bay.

The Rays also picked up infielder Eric Sogard from Toronto on Sunday. Sogard played with Aguilar in Milwaukee in 2017 and ’18.

“He’s struggled a little bit this year. He really is a force at the plate,” Sogard said. “I think he’ll be a big asset to this team.”

Richards, who recently lost his spot in the Marlins’ rotation, is 3-12 this year with an ERA of 4.50. Anderson has a 3.92 ERA in 45 games.

Stanek has been used mostly as an opener by the Rays this year, and he has a 3.40 ERA in 41 games. Sanchez, a 21-year-old left-handed hitter, is batting .275 with Double-A Montgomery.

Kolarek had a chance to say goodbye to his teammates before heading out to join the Dodgers. The 30-year-old reliever shared a couple of hugs before slinging a Rays equipment bag over his shoulder and heading out.

“It’s surreal to be a major league baseball player. You never take that for granted,” he told reporters. “Now to be a part of it a move in the last couple seconds of the trade deadline is crazy.”

Kolarek, 30, was 4-3 with a 3.95 ERA in 54 games this season. He gave up a go-ahead homer against Boston in the series opener on Tuesday night but picked up the win when the Rays rallied the next inning.

Hulsizer, 22, was batting .265 with 20 homers and 67 RBIs in the Midwest League and the California League in his second professional season. He was an 18th-round draft choice by the Dodgers last year.

Jaguars place RB McGowan on IR, sign Mays to fill his spot

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) — The Jacksonville Jaguars have waived/injured running back Taj McGowan after he tore a ligament in his right knee during training camp.

McGowan hurt his knee in practice Tuesday, and tests revealed the extent of the damage. McGowan, an undrafted rookie from UCF, will revert to Jacksonville’s injured reserve if he clears waivers.

The Jaguars signed running back Devante Mays on Wednesday to fill McGowan’s roster spot.

Mays, a seventh-round draft pick by Green Bay in 2017, played in eight games last season before spending the final 10 weeks on Cleveland’s practice squad. Mays spent the final two years of his college career at Utah State, where he ran for 1,225 yards and 12 touchdowns in 19 games.

تعقد الهيئة العامة للرياضة ابتداءً من اليوم الخميس الموافق 1 أغسطس (آب) 2019 وحتى غد الجمعة الموافق 2 أغسطس 2019 في مدينة الملك عبد الله الرياضية بجدة ورشات عمل لممثلي الأندية السعودية الـ170 وممثلي الاتحادات لتوضيح جميع التفاصيل المتعلقة باستراتيجية دعم الأندية والتي أعلنت عنها الهيئة في 20 يوليو (تموز) الماضي بهدف وضع آلية دعم للأندية الرياضيّة تضمن استدامتها ماليّاً وإداريّاً.
وسيحضر ممثلو الأندية ورشات العمل لبدء الخطوات العمليّة لاستحقاق الدعم الإضافي الذي ستقدمّه الهيئة وفق معايير موضوعة بهدف تطوير هذه الأندية وضمان استدامتها ماليّاً وإداريّاً، وكذلك شرح نظام النقاط الموحّد الخاص بدعم الألعاب.
وكانت الهيئة العامة للرياضة قد أعلنت في مؤتمر صحافي في 20 يوليو الماضي عن استراتيجية دعم الأندية الرياضية، والتي تضمنت تقديم دعم مالي مباشر لجميع الأندية الـ170 بواقع 50 مليون ريال سعودي لكل نادٍ من أندية دوري المحترفين والبالغ عددها 16 ناديا، ومبلغ 80 مليون ريال سعودي يقسم بالتساوي بين أندية دوري الأمير محمد بن سلمان لأندية الدرجة الأولى والبالغ عددها 20 ناديا، ومبلغ 36 مليون ريال سعودي يقسم بالتساوي بين أندية الدرجة الثانية والبالغ عددها 24 ناديا، ومبلغ 55 مليون ريال سعودي يقسم بالتساوي بين أندية الدرجة الثالثة والبالغ عددها 110 أندية. وبحسب الاستراتيجية، يمكن لأندية دوري المحترفين والبالغ عددها 16 ناديا الحصول على دعم إضافي في حال تطويرها لأربعة محاور رئيسيّة وهي: (الحوكمة - البنية التحتيّة - القاعدة الجماهيريّة - الألعاب المختلفة)، وستكون آلية الدعم في هذه المحاور مشروطة بحيث يحصل كل نادٍ من أندية دوري المحترفين على مبلغ 20 مليون ريال سعودي، في حال قام النادي بمطابقة معايير محدّدة من ناحية الاستراتيجيّة والقيادة والهيكلة الإداريّة والإدارة الماليّة والإدارة التشغيليّة ومسؤوليّة أصحاب العلاقة والالتزام والتحكّم والمراقبة واللوائح الداخلية.
يحصل كل نادٍ من أندية دوري المحترفين على مبلغ 10 ملايين ريال سعودي مقابل تطوير البنية التحتيّة والمنشآت التابعة لها. ويحصل كل نادٍ من أندية دوري المحترفين على مبلغ 5 ملايين ريال سعودي مقابل تنظيم فعاليات مصاحبة للمباريات المستضافة على ملعب النادي.
كما يحصل كل نادٍ من أندية دوري المحترفين على مبلغ 3 ملايين ريال سعودي مقابل جهود التسويق لزيادة جماهيريّة للنادي ويحصل كل نادٍ من أندية دوري المحترفين على مبلغ (مليون ريال سعودي) في كل مباراة على ملعبه يحقق فيها نسبة حضور جماهيري تفوق 50 في المائة من السعة الإجمالية للملعب، أو حضور أكثر من 10 آلاف متفرج للملاعب التي تزيد سعتها على 25 ألف مقعد. وفيما يخص الألعاب المختلفة وآلية دعمها فقد تم رصد مبلغ (480 مليون ريال سعودي) يتم منحه للنوادي الـ170 في المملكة لتحفيز جهودها في تنشيط مختلف الألعاب، وذلك بالارتكاز على مشاركتها والنتائج التي تحققها ضمن نظام «نقاط موحّد» تم تصميمه خصيصاً لهذا الهدف.
وسيتم توزيع الدعم المالي وفق عدد النقاط الإجمالي الذي يحصده النادي عبر أدائه في مختلف المسابقات في جميع الرياضات، وسيكون الموسم القادم نقطة الانطلاق باختيار 10 ألعاب مختلفة يصل مجموع نقاطها الإجمالي إلى 800 نقطة، وتشمل الألعاب العشر: الكرة الطائرة وكرة السلّة وكرة اليد وألعاب القوى والتنس الأرضي والتايكوندو والكاراتيه وكرة الطاولة والسباحة والدراجات الهوائيّة، وتم اختيار هذه الألعاب العشر في الموسم القادم وفقاً لأربعة معايير هي:
«استراتيجية الهيئة العامة للرياضة للاعبي النخبة، وبطولات الاتحادات، ونسبة المشاركة المجتمعيّة في الألعاب، والطلب الجماهيري على هذه الألعاب».
ويقوم نظام النقاط الموحد للألعاب المختلفة على ثلاث مراحل تتضمن استيفاء الأندية لشروط ومعايير محدّدة للدخول في نظام النقاط أبرزها التنافس في خمس ألعاب من العشر المختارة على الأقلّ والمشاركة في عشر ألعاب بالمجمل، بالإضافة إلى التنافس في خمس ألعاب من العشر المختارة على الأقل في الفئات السنيّة، وتصميم برامج تطوير الفئات السنيّة في 8 من الألعاب العشر المختارة وتقديم خطّة لتطوير الألعاب المختلفة لجميع الفئات السنيّة، ومرحلة جمع النقاط، وتتطلّب من الأندية المؤهلة تفعيل الألعاب والمنافسة والبدء بجمع النقاط خلال المنافسات في الألعاب المختلفة. ومرحلة الدعم المالي والتي يتم فيها تقديم الدعم المالي للأندية وفق عدد النقاط التي حققتها.

توقعت متسابقة الراليات المصرية يارا شلبي أن تشهد مسابقات الراليات المقبلة مشاركة عدد من الفتيات السعوديات في ظل الدعم الذي تجده المرأة من خادم الحرمين الشريفين الملك سلمان بن عبد العزيز وولي عهده الأمير محمد بن سلمان ومواكبة مع قرار السماح لهن بقيادة السيارات.

وقالت شلبي إن الظروف الأمنية في مصر «سابقا» كانت من أسباب خروجها للمشاركات الخارجية في دول الإمارات والمغرب والسعودية.

وقالت شلبي في حديثها لـ«الشرق الأوسط»: البداية كانت في العام 2013 في منافسات محلية في مصر وكانت النتائج حينها سيئة ولكن بالعزيمة واصلت تحقيق طموحاتي في الرياضة التي أحببتها حتى حققت مراكز متقدمة في الأعوام 2014 و2016 و2018 حيث لم أغادر المراكز الثلاثة الأولى في كل تلك السنوات على مستوى الجمهورية، وتخلل تلك الفترة مسابقة رالي الفراعنة الدولي في عام 2015 وحققت الأولى على مستوى مصر وكان الرالي الأخير بسبب عدد من الاحتياطات الأمنية في المناطق الصحراوية في مصر.

وتابعت: قررت بعد ذلك التوجه للمسابقات خارج مصر، حيث شاركت في رالي أم القوين بالإمارات المتحدة في عام 21018 وعقبها عدة مشاركات خارجية حتى وصولي للراليات السعودية هذا العام بمنطقة عسير، وأشعر بسعادة كبيرة كوني أول سيدة تشارك في الراليات السعودية، وأتمنى أن أحقق نتائج إيجابية رائعة.

وحول حصر هذه الرياضة على الرجال فقط، قالت: هذه هواية أستمتع بها كثيرا على عكس بعض السيدات لأن النساء قد لا يرغبن في صيانة المركبات أو المبيت في الصحاري أثناء المنافسات، ولكن أرى أنها متعة كبيرة جدا، ويجب ألا يحتكرها الرجال فقط وأنا الآن محترفة في هذا المجال.

وفيما يخص الصعوبات التي واجهتها، قالت: من الصعوبات التي واجهتها في البدايات هو عدم القناعة بقيادة المرأة لسيارة السباقات، وكذلك عدم وجود معلومات كافية في الميكانيكا، وكنت أتعرض للكثير من (التهريج) من بعض المنافسين لي عندما أنطق أي شيء يخص الميكانيكا بشكل خاطئ، ولكن لم أتأثر كثيرا حتى أصبحت ضمن الأبطال المشار إليهم بالبنان.

وأضافت شلبي أنها وجدت كامل التشجيع من أفراد أسرتها على الرغم من قلقهم من حوادث السيارات لعلمهم أن سباق الراليات يتخلله حوادث خطرة ولكن طمأنتهم أن سيارة السباق بها أمان عال ويتم اختبارها والكشف عليها قبل خوض تلك السباقات.

تنطلق اليوم فعاليات النسخة الثانية من مهرجان ولي العهد للهجن، وذلك بحديقة الملك فيصل بمحافظة الطائف، ضمن فعاليات موسم الطائف 2019.
وشهدت أرض حديقة الملك فيصل بالطائف أعمال تطوير مكثفة شملت جميع ساحاتها وأرصفتها وإعادة تشجيرها، وتم استحداث بوابة رئيسية للحديقة وصالات عروض جديدة تشهدها الطائف لأول مرة.
وتتخطى فعاليات مهرجان الهجن بحديقة الملك فيصل حاجز الـ20 فعالية متنوعة تضم متحفاً يعرض أكبر مجسّم للهجن، سيعلن تسجيله في موسوعة غينيس للأرقام القياسية خلال انطلاق الفعاليات، ومركزاً للسوق الشعبية التي تحوي 24 متجراً متنوعاً ما بين الحرف اليدوية والفخاريات والمأكولات الشعبية، وغيرها، إضافة إلى الخيمة المخصصة للقصص والقصائد الشعرية التي تناولت الهجن وتاريخها العريض في حضارة أبناء الجزيرة العربية.
وسيشاهد زائر فعاليات مهرجان ولي العهد للهجن الثاني، عرضاً للفنون التشكيلية، والمنحوتات، ومرسماً للأطفال، تتخللها معزوفات كاملة على الطبول، فضلاً عن العرض الماسي، وعروض النار، والعروض المتجوّلة، والعزف على البيانو من ارتفاع 5 أمتار، وألعاب الليزر، وفرقة المستحيل، والعروض الفنية، فيما خصصت مدينة للسيرك للعروض البهلوانية والترفيهية للأسر في منطقة الترفيه والتحديات الرياضية المتنوعة.

وأوضح رئيس مجلس إدارة الهيئة العامة للرياضة رئيس الاتحاد الدولي للهجن، أنه وقف على جميع الاستعدادات، والتجهيزات الخاصة بمراحل السباقات التي ستنطلق في 15 أغسطس (آب)، بما يواكب أهمية الحدث الذي يحمل اسم ولي العهد وطموحات ملاك ومحبي رياضة الهجن على مستوى العالم.
وقال صالح العنزي، المتحدث الرسمي لاتحاد الهجن لـ«الشرق الأوسط»: «إن مهرجان ولي العهد سيشهد إقامة 439 شوطاً، تبدأ بالمرحلة التنشيطية لجميع الفئات العمرية بأشواط بلغ عددها 218 شوطاً، فيما ستكون أشواط الماراثون والإنتاج والحراير والأشواط الدولية والسودانية بعدد 48 شوطاً، بينما ستكون الأشواط الختامية للمهرجان بعدد 173 شوطاً.
وذكر العنزي أن المهرجان حقق في عامه الأول حضوراً لافتاً دخل على إثره موسوعة «غينيس» القياسية بعد أن شارك فيه أكثر من 11 ألف مطية، بالإضافة إلى تنوع السباق وتقسيمه إلى عدة أقسام والتي ستكون من ضمنها الأشواط العربية والتي تخص الدول العربية فقط، وذلك تعزيزاً لهذا التراث.

Braves focus on bullpen at deadline, trading for 3 relievers

ATLANTA (AP) — With a second straight trip to the playoffs firmly in their sights, the Atlanta Braves had plenty of options for improving their roster at the trade deadline.

They could’ve pursued a position player to replace the injured Nick Markakis. Another starting pitcher would’ve fit nicely in a rotation that has been shaky at times.

In the end, the Braves decided to focus on the bullpen.

Atlanta pulled off a couple of deals at the trade deadline Wednesday, picking up closer Shane Green from the Detroit Tigers and former closer Mark Melancon from the San Francisco Giants.

The acquisitions by the first-place Braves came after Tuesday’s trade that brought another reliever, Chris Martin of the Texas Rangers.

“We engaged everything — position players, starting pitchers, the bullpen — right up until the end,” general manager Alex Anthopoulos said. “At the end of the day, where we thought there were deals that made sense for us and what we had to give up and so on, the bullpen made the most sense. But we definitely tried some other areas. We just couldn’t wind up with a deal that made sense to our organization.”

Make no mistake: the bullpen was Atlanta’s biggest need. Luke Jackson has been shaky as the closer, a point that was driven home when he surrendered two ninth-inning runs without getting an out in Wednesday’s game against Washington. Forced to extra innings, the Braves won 5-4 on Josh Donaldson’s homer in the 10th, extending their lead in the NL East to 6 1/2 games over the Nationals and Philadelphia.

Jackson, who has 17 saves but failed to convert eight other chances, became the closer almost by default after Arodys Vizcaino sustained a season-ending injury and A.J. Minter struggled. Two other key members of the 2018 bullpen, Jonny Venters and Jesse Biddle, were both let go.

The 30-year-old Greene will likely become the closer after being acquired for a pair of minor-leaguers: left-hander Joey Wentz and outsider Travis Demeritte.

Greene has a 1.18 ERA and 22 saves this season for the rebuilding Tigers.

“They’re excited, I’m excited,” he said in Anaheim, where the Tigers were facing the Los Angeles Angels. “I’m starting a new chapter and going to a contender.”

Melancon was acquired from the Giants for right-handed reliever Daniel Winkler, who has been up and down between Atlanta and Triple-A Gwinnett much of the season, and Class A pitcher Tristan Beck.

After signing a $62 million, four-year contract with San Francisco, Melancon failed to remain the dominant closer he had been with Pittsburgh and Washington — in part because of injuries. He had just 15 saves in his two-plus seasons with the Giants.

The 34-year-old right-hander is 4-2 with a 3.50 ERA in 43 appearances and 46 1/3 innings this season. He waived a no-trade clause to join the Braves after his wife gave the green light.

“She’s running the show here,” Melancon said after his bags were packed in the visiting clubhouse at Philadelphia. “After we talked and realized it’s Atlanta, a really good situation over there, we decided it’s OK. It’s a winning team. They got a lot of young talent, a lot of upside there.”

Unlike Martin, Greene and Melancon are under Atlanta’s control for 2020. Greene will be eligible for free agency and figures to get a sizable raise over the $4 million he’s making this season. Melancon is set to make $14 million in the final year of his big deal, which the Braves will fully assume.

“That was part of it, no doubt,” Anthopoulos said. “That adds value. You want contractual control.”

He said the flurry of moves at the trade deadline pushed Atlanta well over its planned budget for 2019, but the GM was quick to point out that the much-maligned ownership group signed off on spending the extra money without much hesitation.

Liberty Media has come under fire in the community for zealously guarding its checkbook despite getting a new suburban ballpark that was largely paid for with some $400 million in public funding.

“We’re a significant chunk over our allocated budget for the current year,” Anthopoulos said.

The Braves also made a pair of minor moves to bolster their depth heading into the stretch run. Catcher John Ryan Murphy was acquired from Arizona for cash, while outfielder Lane Adams returned to the organization on a minor league deal.

Murphy, who hit .177 with four homers and seven RBIs in 25 games for the Diamondbacks, provides an insurance policy behind Brian McCann and Tyler Flowers. Adams gives the team another outfielder with Markakis sidelined until at least mid-September because of a fractured wrist.

Adams played with the Braves the last two seasons, combining to hit .267 with seven homers, 26 RBIs and 11 stolen bases.

Twins extend AL Central lead with 2-1 win over Marlins

MIAMI — Byron Buxton homered and Jake Odorizzi followed his worst big league start by pitching one-run ball into the sixth inning as the Minnesota Twins beat the Miami Marlins 2-1 Tuesday night.

Odorizzi (12-5) allowed a run and four hits in 5 2/3 innings. He struck out five and was lifted after giving up his only walk to Neil Walker with two out in the sixth. The outing comes less than a week after Odorizzi’s four-inning effort against the New York Yankees on July 24, when he gave up nine runs and 10 hits.

Gallen (1-3) went seven innings for the second straight outing. The rookie right-hander, who was called up from Triple-A New Orleans on June 20, allowed two runs and four hits, striking out eight and walking three.

Minnesota increased its lead in the fourth when Miguel Sano doubled, scoring Eddie Rosario from first.

Curtis Granderson had an RBI double in the fourth for Miami, which was held hitless the rest of the way.

Bieber outdueled by Verlander, Indians drop series opener 2-0 to Astros

CLEVELAND (AP) — Justin Verlander struck out 13 to reach double figures for the third straight start and sixth time this season, leading the Houston Astros over the Cleveland Indians 2-0 on Tuesday night.

In a matchup of All-Stars, Verlander (14-4) outpitched Shane Bieber and won his fourth consecutive start, tying Washington’s Stephen Strasburg for the major league lead in wins. Verlander allowed two hits in seven innings and walked none for the sixth time in 23 starts this year.

He allowed one runner to reach second. Cleveland’s only hits were singles by Roberto Pérez leading off the third and Greg Allen starting the sixth.

Verlander strikes 13, leads Astros over Indians 2-0

CLEVELAND (AP) — Justin Verlander struck out 13 to reach double figures for the third straight start and sixth time this season, leading the Houston Astros over the Cleveland Indians 2-0 on Tuesday night.

In a matchup of All-Stars, Verlander (14-4) outpitched Shane Bieber and won his fourth consecutive start, tying Washington’s Stephen Strasburg for the major league lead in wins. Verlander allowed two hits in seven innings and walked none for the sixth time in 23 starts this year.

He allowed one runner to reach second. Cleveland’s only hits were singles by Roberto Pérez leading off the third and Greg Allen starting the sixth.

الترجي والوداد في قرعة دوري أبطال إفريقيا

وتأهل كل من الفريقين تلقائيا إلى دور الـ32 من النسخة المقبلة حيث سيلتقي الترجي مع الفائز من مباراة سيركل مبيري سبورتيف الغابوني وإيليكت-سبورت التشادي، فيما يلعب الوداد مع الفائز من مباراة سو أرمي العاجي ونواذيبو الموريتاني.

وينتظر الاتحاد الإفريقي قرار محكمة التحكيم الرياضي "كاس" لتحديد مصير مباراة اياب النهائي بين الترجي والوداد التي  قرر الاتحاد القاري إعادتها خارج تونس.

وانسحب الوداد البيضاوي من إياب النهائي وترك أرض ملعب رادس بعد خلاف حول تقنية المساعدة بالفيديو (في إيه آر) التي لم تعمل.

وتوقفت المباراة قرابة الدقيقة 60 إثر احتجاج الوداد على إلغاء هدف عادل به تقدم الترجي في الشوط الأول عبر الجزائري يوسف البلايلي، ومطالبة لاعبيه بالرجوع لتقنية الفيديو التي تبين أنها غير مهيأة. وامتد التوقف نحو 90 دقيقة، شهدت احتكاكا وجيزا بين اللاعبين، ورشقا لأرض الملعب بقوارير المياه من المشجعين، ونزول رئيس الاتحاد القاري أحمد أحمد للتشاور مع مسؤولي الناديين، قبل اتخاذ قرار إنهاء المباراة وفوز الترجي باللقب بعد تعادله ذهابا 1-1.

لكن الاتحاد القاري عاد في بداية حزيران/يونيو بعد اجتماع طارئ للجنته التنفيذية في باريس، عن قرار احتساب الترجي فائزا وقرر إعادة مباراة الإياب على أرض محايدة.

وأثار قرار إعادة المباراة انتقادات من الجانبين التونسي والمغربي ومطالبة كل منهما باعتباره فائزا. ورفعت القضية إلى محكمة التحكيم الرياضي التي أشارت إلى أنها ستصدر حكمها بحلول 31 تموز/يوليو.

ونتيجة لما حصل في نهائي دوري الأبطال لهذا الموسم، قررت اللجنة التنفيذية للاتحاد الإفريقي تعديل نظام المسابقة وكأس الاتحاد أيضا باستبدال مباراتي الذهاب والإياب للدور النهائي، بمباراة نهائية واحدة على أرض محايدة بدءا من الموسم المقبل.

وتبدأ منافسات النسخة المقبلة من المسابقة القارية الشهر المقبل بـ29 مواجهة مع بطاقات تأهل مباشر إلى دور الـ32 لكل من الترجي والوداد ومازيمبي الكونغولي الديمقراطي.

وتشهد المسابقة عودة هافيا الغيني، المتوج باللقب ثلاث مرات بين 1972 و1977، للمرة الأولى منذ 36 عاما حيث سيواجه النجم الساحلي التونسي.

وسيكون ديكيداها أول فريق يشارك من الصومال منذ 1990، وهو سيواجه الزمالك المصري الفائز باللقب خمس مرات.

ومن جهته يبدأ الأهلي المصري، حامل الرقم القياسي بعدد الألقاب (8)، مشواره من الدور التمهيدي حيث يلتقي أطلع برة من جنوب السودان.

وتقام مباريات ذهاب الدور التمهيدي بين 9 و11 آب/أغسطس والإياب بين 23 و25 منه، على أن تقام مباريات ذهاب دور الـ32 بين 13 و15 أيلول/سبتمبر والإياب بين 27 و29 منه.

ويتأهل الفائز الى دور المجموعات، فيما ينتقل الخاسر لإكمال مشواره القاري في كأس الاتحاد.

ويستضيف العراق للفترة من 30 تموز/يوليو إلى 14 آب/أغسطس المقبل بطولة غرب آسيا بمشاركة تسعة منتخبات وزعت على مجموعتين تخوض مبارياتها في مدينتي كربلاء وأربيل.

وتضم المجموعة الأولى إلى جانب العراق ولبنان، منتخبات فلسطين واليمن وسوريا، بينما ضمت المجموعة الثانية منتخبات الأردن والكويت والبحرين والسعودية وتخوض مبارياتها في مدينة أربيل شمالي البلاد.

وحقق المنتخب الفلسطيني نتيجة مماثلة للبلد المضيف بفوزه على نظيره الفلسطيني 1-صفر ايضا.

في المباراة الأولى، بدأ المنتخب اللبناني اللقاء بحذر وحاول المحافظة على تماسكه الدفاعي في الدقائق الأولى  لاحتواء اندفاع صاحب الأرض والجمهور لافتتاح التسجيل مبكرا.

وبمرور الوقت وخلافا للتوقعات، بدأ المنتخب اللبناني بمجاراة مضيفه العراقي ونجح في الوصول إلى مرمى الحارس محمد حميد في أكثر من محاولة، أخطرها للقائد حسن معتوق الذي سدد كرة من مسافة قريبة خارج الخشبات الثلاث (8).

وحاول صاحب الأرض استعادة المبادرة والاقتراب من مرمى حارس المنتخب اللبناني مهدي خليل الذي لم يواجه أي محاولة طيلة الشوط الأول الذي كان فيه الضيوف هم الأفضل.

وكاد نور منصور أن يفتتح التسجيل لمنتخب لبنان من كرة قوية سددها قبل انتهاء هذا الشوط بخمس دقائق، لكن محاولته مرت بجانب القائم.

في الشوط الثاني، تحسن أداء المنتخب العراقي بعد تغييرين عمد إليهما الجهاز الفني مرة واحدة لزيادة فاعلية منطقة الوسط بإشراك صفاء هادي بدلا من أمجد عطوان، وعلاء عباس بدلا من أيمن حسين.

وفي الدقيقة 52، نجح المنتخب العراقي في التقدم بإحرازه هدف المباراة الوحيد بواسطة حسين علي الذي استثمر خروج الحارس مهدي خليل وكذلك الارتباك الدفاعي لمنتخب لبنان وأرسل الكرة إلى المرمى.

وفي المباراة الثانية على الملعب ذاته، بدأ المنتخبان الفلسطيني واليمني الشوط الأول بندية متبادلة لكن مع مرور الوقت، فرض الأول نفسه بفضل الانسجام الذي صنعته خبرة مخضرميه خصوصا قائده عبد اللطيف البهداري، وأتيحت أمامه فرص للتقدم أبرزها كرة قوية سددها محمد درويش في الدقيقة 21 لكنها علت العارضة قليلا.

وفي الدقيقة 26، ارتقى مدافع المنتخب الفلسطيني عبد اللطيف البهداري لكرة عرضية عالية وحولها برأسه نحو زميله ياسر حمد الذي أكملها رأسية أيضا في شباك الحارس سالم عوض.

وواصل المنتخب الفلسطيني أفضليته في الشوط الثاني وحاول تعزيز تقدمه لحسم اللقاء، لكن النتيجة لم تتغير بعدما أهدر عدي الدباغ فرصة هدف ثان بسبب تباطؤ في تسديد كرة قريبة من مرمى الحارس اليمني (72).

وقبل انتهاء المباراة بدقيقتين، ردت عارضة المرمة اليمني كرة الدباغ في آخر محاولات المنتخب الفلسطيني واللقاء.
